Beyonce in a long sleeved crop top and tube skirt by Topshop. She added a pop of colour to this monochrome number with coral pumps. This outfit cost £36 ($54)...it's all about how you wear it ladies..the fxck the price tag!!! Love this look..head to toe.

I'm starting to notice a trend here! Crop tops are/have made a comeback and if styled well I think it can work for women of any size...emphasis on IF STYLED WELL!!!

Bare Necessities

Solange isn't the only keeping up with the 1940/50's exposed midriff trend that has been around for years, but is finally making it's mark on the catwalks, red carpet and in editorials in a big way.

Note: Belly buttons should be out of sight - this isn't SJP circa 1990's Sex + the city trend.
For those like me that aren't too confident with exposing your stomach area there are options like dresses with sheer layering and cut-outs that only show a peek of midriff. So we can all have a piece of midriff action- yay! Bare in mind (ha!) that the fitted/tailored/structured pieces look best.

*OCTAVIA SPENCER LOOKED FLAWLESS, A PERFECT DRESS + CUT THAT IS APPROPRIATE FOR HER AGE, SHAPE + COMPLEXION. JUST PERFECT!

*i see lea Michele has been practicing her poses. I love the slit + it has taken a simple dress to an instant glam level and the soft grey DIDN'T WASH HER COMPLEXION OUT.

* Modern family's Ariel Winter is 14, pay attention all you teens - you don't have to wear short dresses/skirts to look hot!  The embroidery + lace combo is just beautiful.

*ASHLEE SIMPSON WHO IS DATING A BOARDWALK EMPIRE CAST MEMBER DECIDED TO WEAR A 1920'S STYLE DRESS WITH BEAUTIFUL BEADING + SHEER TULLE NECKLINE - I WOULD HAVE LOVED IT TO BE MORE FITTED BUT SHE LOOKS GREAT. 

*ZOE SALDANA IS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT CAN WEAR SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE HARD TO LOOK GOOD ON SOMEONE ELSE. HER HEIGHT + FRAME IS PERFECT FOR A DRESS LIKE THIS, IT SITS IN ALL THE RIGHT PLACES.

*ROSE BYRNE IS ONE OF THE FEW PEOPLE THAT WENT OUTSIDE OF THE BOX. A DAZZLING JUMPSUIT with a CLASSIC SILHOUETTE + CAPPED SLEEVES GIVE IT AN EDGE + HER FRINGED BOB IS THE ICING ON THE CAKE. 

**LADY ROUGE**

*JULIE BOWEN IS WEARING A SIMPLE DRESS, NATURAL MAKEUP + I LOVE THAT SHE DIDN'T OVER DO IT. 

*SOFIA VERGARA CHOSE A SATIN CREPE FISHTAIL DRESS THAT FLAUNTS HER FIGURE AMAZINGLY WELL +  SHE LOOKS HOT BUT I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HER IN A DIFFERENT SILHOUETTE.

*DEXTER'S JENNIFER CARPENTER DRESS IS STUNNING, I LOVE THE BEADING + THE SHORTER HEMLINE IS DEFINITELY REFRESHING. 

*Ahna O'Reilly CHOSE A SIMPLE RED dress that COMPLIMENTS HER BEAUTIFUL MILK COMPLEXION. YOU SHOULD SEE THE BACK OF THE DRESS - AN ASYMMETRIC CUT-OUT THAT MADE ME LOVE HER OUTFIT. I'm NOT A FAN OF wearing RED DRESS AND pairing it with a RED BAG, so A BLACK-GOLD OR one EMBELLISHED WITH CRYSTALS WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE SINCE HER JEWELLERY IS AT A MINIMUM.

A FRIEND OF MINE HAS THIS EXACT SILVER CARDIGAN FROM H&M, THEY MUST HAVE REVAMPED IT AND BROUGHT IT BACK..I'M DEFINITELY GETTING IT.

I SAW A PIC OF OLIVIA PALERMO WEARING A SIMILAR STYLE TOP AT AN EVENT. REALLY CUTE. METALLICS ARE GREAT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO LOOK OVERDRESSED BUT WANT TO LOOK LIKE YOU MADE AN EFFORT.

Mellow yellow

I love the combo of white and yellow, like Solange, Rose Byrne + Mischa Barton do below:

When I saw the pink and yellow combination worn by Dakota in the post below, it was something I never thought would work, but the subtle softness of the pink/nude  + bright yellow somehow works. Some other examples of the colour combination in different styles:

  I will be on the look out for some yellow + pink pieces, though I'm not a fan of yellow I could wear it in accessories like bags + shoes (even nail varnish)

How does she look this good at 39!! I'm 25 and I look like I could be her mother. Arrgggh my skin and everything else is just dull + lifeless!

Her hair regimen:

*Her favourite protective styles are weaves + pieces to protect her hair from heat + styling.
*She wears weaves for 6 weeks max.
*She doesn't use a relaxer but does straighten her hair with a traditional hot comb + grease (but insists she would never do it everyday).
*She trims her hair 1/2inch every 6 weeks
*She wraps her hair at night and in the morning she uses a Tancho stick to smooth down her edges.

Happy New Years to all of you, I plan on going to see fireworks or going to a party in central London and spending time with my family. Hope 2011 was everything you wanted + 2012 will be bigger + better. So here is some sparkle* to see you into the New Year. I got a great idea from  *natural belle* to list my black women+ men/ natural hair inspirations of 2011. 

 

 SOLANGE: Singer + DJ + fashion icon Solange is my number one fashionista. Since her big chop over a year ago her style has transformed from strength to strength as she has taken more risks, experimenting with colours + textures. She is effortlessly fabulous and she is a great example of how to mix + match old and new pieces as well as mixing high street + designer items.

SHALA MONROQUE: She is an editor + art consultant and great at
experimenting with different styles and wearing vivid colours. I think of her as an old soul, 1920's era.

ZOE KRAVITZ: The progeny of Lenny Kravitz + Lisa Bonet, Zoe's bohemian meets rocker style
is an eccentric hybrid of fashion that blends adventurous with hippie.

 

 

KANYE WEST: He has great jackets + shoes. It's Kanye there's nothing more to say.

PHARELL WILLIAMS: A fashion icon because he makes fashion look so fun. 

Voted as Esquire's best dressed man in 2005, Pharell's creativity in music + fashion is what makes 

his brand a success. Oh and he's sexy.

 

 AJAK DENG: In my opinion she is the most beautiful black model out there at the moment. With her hairstyle + long legs, Ajak is a designers dream.
She has walked for Lanvin, Givenchy, Chloe, Marc Jacobs, JPG + has featured in magazines like Vogue + V.  (her sister Atuai Deng is also making waves - "sisters are doing it for themselves")

THIAGO SANTOS: The man is gorgeous + his hair is equally amazing. He's an up and coming model so I have a feeling we will be seeing more of him in 2012. 

 

 ELLE VARNER: She's got a beautiful smile + great voice. Her hair adds to her bubbly personality + I look forward to seeing what she does in 2012.

CORINNE BAILEY RAE: Talented singer + everything from her curls to beauty is breathtaking.  She took a break from the music scene for a while after the death of her husband, she then came back with her 2010 album 'The Sea' + 2011's 'The Love E.P'.
